Finally, after all the hard work, things have come to fruition for two Blackpool Business women. Over the past 2 and a half years, Sheila Morris and Helen Lake have been sharing an office at the beautiful, FY Creative Business Centre (FYC) on Church Street. A business hub for the creative industry, funded by Blackpool Council and headed up by Peter Legg. Since moving in, the passion for their respective businesses has grown, and having met so many people who have inspired them along the way, they soon realised that they had a lot to offer other businesses to help them grow and develop. They have an enthusiasm for business that is both innovative and infectious. Sheila, a professional photographer and Helen, a web developer have always had a passion for people and for marketing.

T
hey have kept abreast of all the latest emerging technology and seen how it can help small local business attract new customers. At the heart of all this new media there still has to be a strong word of mouth marketing strategy, with friends and family reviewing businesses to give them a chance to rank organically in the search engines and compete against large organisations. Sheila and Helen have been researching the way google categorises local searches and have developed a marketing strategy for small businesses to help them put this in place, reaching more customers in a variety of ways. Working together has inspired them to join forces and create Social Media Buddies. Their mission is to bring more customers to businesses in Blackpool and the local area, increase the profile of the resort as a forward thinking, innovative destination, help as many local businesses as possible to achieve their marketing goals and raise much needed funds for the local Blackpool Charity, The Trinity Hospice.
Social Media Buddies offers help and support to small business in all aspects of on-line marketing, social media marketing and web 3.0 marketing, (the mobile web). The Mobile Web is an area of online marketing that is growing rapidly and with 4 mobile phones to every pc, Sheila and Helen believe that all businesses should have some sort of mobile web presence.
"We continually hear that old adage, "you should be fishing where the fish are", so, what does this mean? You should be marketing where your customers are. If we look at consumer behaviour today, what are the majority of us doing? We communicate via social networks, such as Twitter or Facebook, we tweet, we text, we update our status, we check-in to places and much of this is done on the mobile. We rarely leave the house without our mobile phones. Therefore, to reach "on the go" customers, all business owners need to address this and should have some sort of mobile and social media presence to compete in their niche markets. It is a fantastic way to build real relationships with new and existing customers, keeping your business in their minds, being available to give them advise. At
Social Media Buddies
, we believe that, just because the mobile device is small, this doesn't mean that marketing in this area should be. Google has invested heavily in the local, social and
mobile web marketing
, so much so, that it has re-written its algorithms for local search. It is able to recognise what sort of device consumers are searching from and predicts whether they require local information. This is great and you may show up in the google search but then it gets tricky. The searcher clicks through to your website to get the information he/she needs and waits for your website to load, and waits and waits, then gives up because it takes too long and clicks the back button....customer lost! Social Media Buddies offer an amazing, affordable solution to you mobile web problem, your own mobile website. They load 6X faster than a desktop website and give the consumer the information about your business that an "on the go" searcher is looking for. The website is tailored to your business and will have a dotMobi domain name, which tells search engines and searchers that it is for the mobile phone. Let customers contact you, wherever you are and wherever they are. We are looking forward to helping all local businesses, with their local, social and mobile marketing and hope to raise much needed funds for our chosen charity, the Trinity Hospice."
